Songs of the Skylark
Ying Huang Recital
Shanghai Oriental Art Center · Concert Hall · April 30, 2016
Presented as part of the 33rd Shanghai Spring International Music Festival
Overview
Following her acclaimed Voice of Spring recital at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, soprano Ying Huang returned to her home city of Shanghai with Songs of the Skylark — a gala evening celebrating her twenty-four-year international career.
Held at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on April 30, 2016, the concert brought together five languages and centuries of song: from Handel’s radiant oratorios to Mozart’s lyric operas, from French mélodies to modern Chinese art songs. Partnered by pianist Liang Zhang, Huang performed an exquisite selection of works that she has presented on major stages across Europe and the United States — refined, expressive, and imbued with her signature vocal warmth.
The performance also paid tribute to the 260th anniversary of Mozart’s birth, echoing Huang’s long association with Mozartian roles.
