About Li-wei Qin
Internationally renowned cellist Li-Wei Qin is a laureate of the Tchaikovsky and Naumburg Competitions, and a frequent soloist with orchestras including the London Symphony, BBC Symphony, Singapore Symphony, and Melbourne Symphony.
He records for Decca and Sony Classical, serves as Professor of Cello at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, National University of Singapore, and is the founding Artistic Director of the Qingdao International Cello Festival.

Overview
After more than two years away from the Chinese stage, cellist Li-Wei Qin officially began his 2022 China Tour on July 3 in Qingdao, performing Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B Minor with the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra under conductor Guoyong Zhang.
The concert, titled “National Colours”, featured music by Dvořák and Rimsky-Korsakov — composers who infused their works with national spirit and melodic richness. Qin’s performance of the Dvořák concerto, one of the greatest Romantic works for cello, was marked by warmth, nobility, and extraordinary expressive power.

Overview
The Hangzhou performance served as the Season Finale of the 2021–2022 Season, with Qin and conductor Jia Lü delivering a profoundly moving interpretation of Elgar’s elegiac concerto, followed by the transcendental grandeur of Bruckner’s unfinished Ninth Symphony.
