Biography
Clarinetist Shuqing Lu has been acclaimed as one of the most promising young musicians from China. A prizewinner of multiple international and national competitions, Shuqing’s prizes and awards include the Saverio Mercadante International Clarinet Competition held in Italy, Buffet Crampon Clarinet Competition, China Music Golden Bell Award Clarinet Competition, CCOM(Central Conservatory of Music) Woodwinds Solo Competition and CCOM International Mozart Clarinet Competition.
As a soloist, Shuqing has good collaboration with the major orchestras in China, such as Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Qingdao Symphony Orchestra and Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra. Shuqing has great passion as an avid chamber musician, he has attended in prominent music festivals such as Pablo Casals Festival, Kiakaruizawa International Clarinet Seminar, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Morningside Music Bridge Festival. In 2020-2021, he has served as the guest principle clarinetist of Central Music Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra as well.
Shuqing Lu’s repertoire varies from Baroque to contemporary music, and he is dedicated to present contemporary music. Shuqing released his first album Narration in 2018, including a selection of substantial works and Chinese works. This recording is proudly labeled by China Record Corporation, the oldest and largest record company in China. In 2021, he was invited by Beijing Music Festival (BMF) to give a recital in German Embassy featuring works composed by contemporary German composers such as Alban Berg, Jörg Widmann, Paul Hindemith. This concert was livestreamed through various platforms and has received over 600,000 views.
Currently Shuqing Lu is pursuing his DMA under the guidance of Prof. Lei Fan in Central Conservatory of Music, where he earned his master and undergraduate degree with highest honors.
