Shucong He

Violinist

Shucong He is one of the most active violinists of his generation in China. He currently serves as Assistant Professor and Master’s Supervisor at the School of Music of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Associate Professor at the Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao. He is a signed artist of Major Music, concertmaster of the MGE Youth Orchestra, and an artist of the Hefeng Art Foundation.
He has won numerous international and national awards, including the Gold Prize in the Professional Adult Group at the 3rd CCTV Violin Competition, the 10th Golden Bell Award, and the 10th Wenhua Award. He is also a laureate of the Brahms International Violin Competition (Austria) and the inaugural Viktor Tretyakov International Violin Competition.
Shucong has collaborated with many renowned conductors including Lingfen Wu, Zhanhao He, Long Yu, Yi Huang, Liang Zhang, Yongyan Hu, Tao Fan, Qiyuan Zhu, Huan Jing, John Nelson, Vladimir Lande, and Jochem Hochstenbach, performing with major orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), China Philharmonic Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic, Xiamen Philharmonic, Shanghai Philharmonic, Wuhan Philharmonic, Changsha Symphony, Changying Orchestra, Harbin Symphony, China Youth Symphony, and the Siberian Symphony Orchestra (Russia).
His performances have taken him to over 20 countries and leading concert halls throughout China. Recent projects include national tours of The Island and the Beloved, Love at Daybreak, the complete Brahms violin sonatas, and The Four Seasons · Butterfly Lovers. His upcoming album The Island and the Beloved will be released globally by Universal Music Group in 2025.
Recent career highlights include his April performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the Xiamen Philharmonic, where he gave the China premiere of a cadenza by Jörg Widmann; his appearance at the United Nations in Beijing for World Refugee Day in June; a tribute concert with composer Zhanhao He and the Changying Orchestra for the 65th anniversary of Butterfly Lovers; a solo recital at the Beijing Ancient Architecture Music Festival in October; and a Schubert piano trio concert at the NCPA Taihu Stage in November. In December, he appeared in the opening film of the 2025 New Year’s Concert Sailing Forward broadcast on China Central Television. As concertmaster, he also helped plan and lead the debut season of the MGE Youth Orchestra.
Shucong is an enthusiastic chamber and contemporary music performer. In addition to frequent tours with renowned violinist Siqing Lu, he co-founded the Blueberry Piano Trio with pianist Wang Chao and cellist Shicheng Yan. He previously performed with the Pentagon Piano Quintet, winning an award at the 9th Golden Bell Award for Chamber Music. He is a member of both the CCOM Chamber Ensemble and the Accent Soloists Chamber Orchestra, and participated in the recording of Toward the Moon, the official music of China’s lunar exploration project. His media appearances include Spring Voice Concert, National Treasure, and My Art List on CCTV, and Who’s Still Standing on Jiangsu TV.
Shucong studied under Professors Chen Jixu, Chai Liang, Yu Bing, Pierre Amoyal, Qian Zhou, and violinist Shlomo Mintz. He graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music, where he was selected for the prestigious Elite Talent Program. He received sponsorship from the Edifier Musician Foundation and Wahaha Music Foundation. He is the first and only artist diploma recipient in the history of the National University of Singapore, where he received a full scholarship.
His musical journey has been shaped by guidance from Ivry Gitlis, Pinchas Zukerman, Viktor Tretyakov, Vadim Repin, Midori Goto, and Nam Yun Kim.
Shucong He currently performs on a fine Italian violin generously provided by the China Foundation, Hong Kong.
